Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast that will cover all of Rick Riordan’s projects, new and old.
What does that entail, exactly? All of his books, their adaptations, and the stories from his imprint, Rick Riordan Presents.
My name is Karen, and you might recognize me from my coverage of Percy Jackson over on Hypable, where I’ve been covering Rick Riordan for close to a decade. From the books to the movies (yes, those movies) to the musical and everything in between, I’ve had a blast talking about all kinds of mythology with Hypable’s readers.
When I found out Hypable was closing, I had to make a decision—did I want to keep writing? Did I want to keep covering the fandoms I’ve become so passionate about? The answer was yes, written in neon lights, but I wasn’t sure how or where I wanted to do that.
That’s how Subjectify was born—through a desire to keep talking about all the properties that fill my thoughts on a daily basis, not just Percy Jackson. That being said, Rick Riordan’s shared universe will be a major focus, and one I’m excited to keep exploring.
After all, there’s so much to talk about, not just with what we already have, but also with what’s to come next. A Disney+ adaptation of the first series? A Netflix adaptation of the Kane Chronicles? An entire imprint churning out new books on an almost monthly basis? The possibilities are endless.
It seems strange that I’ve never thought of doing a Percy Jackson podcast before, considering it’s my favorite series of all time. It’s always my go-to for book recommendations, and if you’ve been around Hypable for any given amount of time (especially if you’re a former Book Hype listener), then you know I’m always talking about Percy Jackson.
Prophecy Radio was borne out of a desire to dive deeper into this universe than I could through print. Not only will we be talking about Percy Jackson (and all related topics) on a weekly basis, but I’ll be able to have in-depth conversations with fellow fans.
First and foremost, that includes my Hypable and Subjectify colleague, close friend, and roommate, Kristen, who has been reading Percy Jackson nearly as long as I have. This is one of the main properties we’ve bonded over throughout the years, and I couldn’t imagine doing this Percy Jackson podcast with anyone else.
Kristen’s written about Percy Jackson for Hypable on countless occasions, and we’re both so excited to see where this podcast takes us. And trust me, we have high hopes for what’s to come.
Our main priority will be discussing Percy Jackson, both the books and the new Disney+ adaptation, but we also want to cover the Kane Chronicles movies on Netflix, any new Rick Riordan novels, and as many of the Rick Riordan Presents books as we can.
We also want to chat with fellow Percy Jackson fans, including some of our mutual friends, fellow podcasters, and RRP authors. Who knows, maybe we’ll even be able to conduct interviews with the cast and crew of the new show. The sky’s the limit, here.
If this sounds like a venture you’re interested in, please check out Prophecy Radio: A Percy Jackson Podcast episode 1, where we introduce ourselves, talk about the latest news, and do an in-depth discussion of the first two chapters of The Lightning Thief. You can listen below.
Episode 2 will be here soon enough, where we’ll discuss The Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities, as will episode 3, in which we’ll talk about some of our favorite Rick Riordan Presents book. Episode 4 will review Daughter of the Deep and go over the main talking points from Rick’s virtual tour.
After that, we’ll see where the wind takes us.
At the end of the day, this podcast is my very own dream project. Now I have an excuse to re-read my favorite books, talk endlessly about the characters I love, and speculate with other fans about the upcoming show, which I’ve got extremely high hopes for.
I hope you’ll join us for the ride. Please follow us on Twitter, listen to us on Spotify, and keep reading about Percy Jackson here on Subjectify. We want to hear your questions and comments, especially if there’s a specific topic you’d like us to cover.
Until then, this is Prophecy Radio, signing off. Over and out.
